Military History 1907 - 1927
Have we got any military historians on this forum?

I need help to unravel my grandfathers military service.
His military records were destroyed during WW2.

He joined the XI Hussars around 1907, left in 1912, rejoined in 1914 and eventually died in service in 1926/27.
My problem area is when he rejoined in 1914. He was with a Cavalry Reserve Regiment training other troops and it's sorting out the links between Reserve Regiments & the XI Hussars where I have the problem.

Can anyone help?
Willing to discuss in more detail?

Hi Sigma,
Think you might be in luck. Records of Servicemen who didn't leave the Military until the 1920s are stored in Glasgow. My father was discharged in 1922 and I received all his papers. It costs 30 pounds for result or no result. Address.
ARMY PERSONNEL CENTRE, CIVIL SECRETARIAT, HISTORICAL DISCLOSURES. MAIL POINT 400, KENTIGEN HOUSE, 65 BROWN ST. GLASGOW G2 8EX.
Just write to them for the forms to fill in. You have to prove kinship.
Good luck,
Bob.

Been there, done that etc.

His service records along with thousands of others were stored in a warehouse in Londons East Docks. These were destroyed during the blitz.

I have got further now and have now traced him to Ballykinlar Internment Camp, Co Down, Ireland in 1922. I can't find out which regiment he was with though.

Can anyone help out?
