Hello Fellow Family Researchers

I have been researching my family roots (from scratch) for 2 years with some success. The research is based in Ireland and stretches to Scotland, England, Canada and Brazil. I have more or less exhausted the various internet sources and am ready to interrogate record offices and order official certificates and documents. Any advice would be very welcome - especially in the context of Ireland. Names being investigated are Burns, McCurdy, Liggett (various spellings used!) and Steele. Brick walls are numerous in Ireland as many records have been destroyed! Here's hoping this forum can help me make progress - happy digging!

My own branch joins me with my grandfather Charles Mead(e) WIDDOWS born South Leigh Oxon 1850 died 1926. Hiis branch go back via Standlake Oxon and thence back to Charlbury area.
As far as I can see there appear to be 2 main concentrations of WIDDOWS: Oxfordshire & Norfolk with a Norfolk "black sheep" creating a newer concentration in Yorkshire which was ably documented by the late Rev Kit WDDOWS.
I have the birth records for Edward and Joseph so I know that when they were born, John and his wife Margaret (b.~1790) were living at the mill. I would like some details of the father (John Roberts) especially where he was born, who were his parents and were all three sons from the same marriage.

Parents were Eric Johnson and Dorothy Johnson (nee Pratt)
I know they had a daughter born in Cheltenham in 1951 called Joan Johnson.
It is possible through my research so far that there were four other siblings born between 1939 and 1954 but I am not sure if my research is correct, if it is then the names were Eric, Dawn, Ann and Alan Johnson.
If anyone knows of the family or can help me get over the brickwall I am facing I would be very grateful

My father served in RAF during and just after (possibly until 1946) then worked briefly for the Hydrographic Office before joining Barclay & Fry in Southwark as a lithographic retoucher. It is my understanding that he never served an apprenticeship - so how did he receive his training? (he was not employed in this field pre-war). Would I be able to find any records anywhere?

This years WDYTYA series has been announced and is expected to start in August. The 10 celebrities taking part include an Author, Artist, Actors/Actresses, Comedian, Musician, Sportsmen and TV Presenter.

The debut episode will feature JK Rowing, followed by June Brown, Alan Carr, Seb Coe, Larry Lamb, Emilia Fox, Richard Madeley, Len Goodman, Tracy Emin and Robin Gibb.

Which episode are you most looking forward to seeing?

I think Alan Carr’s sounds rather interesting with a ‘Change of name in mysterious circumstances’ given in his snippet.

I am also looking forward to discovering the London roots of Len Goodman and the discoveries of Bee Gees star Robin Gibb. Did anyone know that the Bee Gees were born on the Isle of Man and have family roots in Lancashire?

Who do you think will have the most interesting background? Do you think your research will have any similarities with the stars?

Please do post your comments, we would love to know which episodes you are most looking forward to seeing and why?

Does anyone have experience with this website? They are offering a 7 day free trial, but I'm concerned that there is no detailed information explaining how to cancel if you don't wish to purchase a subscription. The site only advises "... you only have to cancel if not satisfied....".
Thanks for any input.
